Bread Bowl and Main Ingredients

  • 1 loaf round rustic bread loaf (bread boule) A sturdy crust and chewy interior.
  • 12 oz wheel of brie (about 12 oz, triple cream recommended) Rich and buttery.
  • 1/2 cup whole berry cranberry sauce Adds tart sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves For flavor enhancement.
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil For brushing the bread.
  • to taste Kosher salt Enhances overall flavors.
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper For seasoning.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Slice off the top quarter of the rustic bread loaf and remove the inner bread to create a cavity for the brie.
  • Create 1.5-inch cuts around the outer edge of the bread for easy dipping.
  • Brush the inside of the bread bowl with olive oil and season with kosher salt, black pepper, and half of the thyme leaves.
  • Place the brie wheel in the cavity, top it with remaining thyme, and spoon cranberry sauce over it.

Baking

  • Replace the top of the bread and place the loaf on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until the brie is melted and the bread is crispy.

Serving

  • Remove from the oven and serve immediately, optionally with toasted scooped-out bread pieces.

Notes

For variations, consider using herbs like rosemary or sage. Adding honey on top of the cranberry sauce can add a touch of sweetness.
