Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's adequately softened for best texture.
  • 3 oz cream cheese, softened Use high-quality cream cheese for best flavor.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Consider using high-quality vanilla or almond extract.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • extra granulated sugar or powdered sugar for dusting Optional for serving.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the granulated sugar and beat again until well combined. Mix in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until homogeneous.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, beating on low speed just until a soft dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30–45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop 1 tablespoon of dough, roll it into balls, and place them 2 inches apart on the baking sheets. Press gently to flatten them slightly.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are just golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool completely before dusting with granulated or powdered sugar, if desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze the unfixed dough for up to three months.
