Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 medium Vidalia onion, chopped
  • 1 small green cabbage, chopped
  • 8 tbsp butter
  • 1 can (10 oz) cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and cabbage to the skillet. Cook for about 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent and the cabbage is soft.
  • Stir in the cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup, along with a pinch of salt and pepper. Ensure everything is well combined.
  • Transfer the vegetable mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over the top.
  • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  • Let the casserole cool slightly before serving.

Notes

To elevate flavors, add garlic powder or dried herbs. Experiment with cheese types or add bacon bits or sautéed mushrooms for extra richness. For a healthier option, substitute the soup with a homemade white sauce.
