Instructions

  • Carefully cut the top off the loaf of bread and hollow out the center, leaving about 1/2 inch of bread on the sides.

Cooking the Filling

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground Italian sausage until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in onion powder, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), and marinara sauce, mixing everything well.

Assembly

  • Brush the inside of the hollowed-out bread with melted butter combined with garlic powder.
  • Layer half of the mozzarella cheese inside the bread, followed by spreading the meat sauce mixture.
  • Sprinkle on mini pepperoni slices, and top with the remaining mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Baking

  • Sprinkle extra mozzarella and arrange pepperoni slices on top.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serving

  • Once out of the oven, sprinkle fresh parsley on top, slice into thick pieces, and serve with extra marinara for dipping.

Notes

For added flavor, consider toasting the bread slightly before adding the fillings. You can also add sautéed bell peppers or onions for extra flavor.
