Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Perfectly fluffy to give structure.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Provides that rich chocolate flavor.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the batter while helping it to rise.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Adds moisture and depth to the dough.
  • 1 tsp baking powder Essential for leavening your donuts.
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda Helps dough rise and creates a tender crumb.
  • 1/4 tsp salt Balances sweetness and enhances flavors.
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Ensures a moist and tender texture.
  • 1/4 cup melted butter Introduces richness and flavor.
  • 2 pcs eggs Adds body and allows the donuts to set.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract A hint of warmth that brings the flavors together.
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips Intensifies the chocolate experience.

For the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips For melting and making the glaze.
  • 2 tbsp butter Used in the glaze for a silky finish.
  • 2 tbsp corn syrup or heavy cream Adds shine and texture to the glaze.
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract Enhances the glaze's flavor.
  • Extra mini chocolate chips, chocolate drizzle, or curls, and shaved dark chocolate To crown your donuts with irresistible toppings.

Instructions

Make the Batter

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Carefully pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix just until combined.
  • Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips to ensure every bite is packed with chocolate bliss.

Bake the Donuts

  • Grease your donut pan well to ensure the donuts release easily after baking.
  • Fill each cavity of the pan about three-quarters full with the batter.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Glaze

  • In a small saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and butter over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Stir in the corn syrup (or heavy cream) and vanilla extract.
  • Allow the glaze to cool slightly; this thickens it, making it perfect for dipping.

Glaze & Decorate

  • Once the donuts are completely cooled, dip the tops into the warm glaze, letting any excess drip off.
  • While the glaze is still soft, sprinkle extra mini chocolate chips, drizzle with melted chocolate, or add chocolate curls or shaved chocolate.

Notes

For a deeper chocolate flavor, opt for Dutch-processed cocoa powder. Experiment with various toppings like sprinkles or nuts.
