  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder Aromatic and savory, a hint of garlic complements the rich filling perfectly.
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder Adds a warm, oniony essence that enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • 1/4 tsp salt Elevates all the flavors, enhancing taste without overpowering.

Wrapping and frying ingredients

  • 12 pieces egg roll wrappers Crisp and thin, they provide the perfect crunchy exterior.
  • 1 piece egg, beaten Acts as a glue to secure the egg rolls, ensuring they hold their filling.
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) Oil plays a crucial role in achieving that golden, crispy finish.

Dipping sauces

  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce Sweet and tangy, perfect for complementing the flavors of the egg rolls.
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce Adds a savory touch that enhances the dish’s umami.
  • 1 tsp honey A hint of natural sweetness to elevate the dipping experience.

Instructions

Mixing the Filling

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped crab, finely sliced green onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Stir gently until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Assembling Egg Rolls

  • Lay an egg roll wrapper on a flat surface, ensuring one corner is pointing towards you. Spoon about two tablespoons of the crab mixture onto the center of the wrapper.
  • Gently brush the edges with the beaten egg; this acts as glue when folding. Roll the wrapper tightly away from you, tucking in the sides to keep the filling secure.

Frying to Perfection

  • In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil to approximately 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the egg rolls into the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes per side until they shimmer with a lovely golden-brown hue.
  • Transfer the egg rolls to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Preparing Dipping Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix together the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and honey to create an irresistible dipping sauce.

Notes

Ensure the cream cheese is soft enough to mix easily. Don’t overcrowd the frying pan to maintain an even frying temperature. Keep an eye on the oil’s temperature to avoid burnt or greasy rolls.
