  • Fresh basil or mint leaves Offers a pop of color and freshness.
  • Cracked black pepper Adds a spicy kick.
  • Lemon zest curls for garnish A sophisticated touch for presentation.

Instructions

Sautéing the Aromatics

  • In a deep skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and orzo, stirring for about 2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant and the orzo takes on a slightly golden hue.

Cooking the Orzo

  • Gradually pour in the hot vegetable broth, stirring frequently to help the orzo absorb the liquid just like traditional risotto. Continue cooking for 10–12 minutes, maintaining a creamy texture. Season with salt, pepper, and the zest of one lemon towards the end.

Creating the Lemon Feta Sauce

  • While the orzo simmers, blend the feta cheese, heavy cream, lemon juice, and optional Parmesan until the mixture is smooth and silky. Once the orzo is tender and creamy, gently fold in the feta mixture until everything is beautifully combined.

Plating for Drama

  • Spoon the creamy orzo into a shallow bowl or serving dish, artistically nestling the burrata ball in the center.

Finishing Touches

  • Garnish with fresh basil or mint leaves, a sprinkle of cracked black pepper, and lemon zest curls for an elegant presentation. Serve hot, perhaps alongside toasted bread to soak up any remaining creamy goodness.

Notes

Keep the broth hot to ensure a smooth cooking process. Stir gently but frequently to help the orzo release starch and achieve a creamy consistency. Always taste as you go to adjust seasoning. Using room temperature burrata ensures that it melts perfectly when added.
