For the Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix A rich and decadent mix.
  • 1 cup water Adding moisture for a tender crumb.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Keeps the cake moist and adds richness.
  • 3 large eggs Helps the cake rise beautifully.
  • 1 cup sour cream Adds creaminess and depth of flavor.
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows Provides chewy texture.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Melts beautifully.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream For the ganache.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds warmth and sweetness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and dusting them with flour.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Blend until smooth.
  • Fold in the sour cream until well combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Making Ganache

  • Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until simmering. Stir in the chocolate chips until melted and smooth.
  • Add the vanilla extract to the ganache, mixing well.

Assembling the Cake

  • On a serving plate, place one layer of cake and spread the mini marshmallows evenly over the top.
  • Pour half of the chocolate ganache over the marshmallows.
  • Top with the second cake layer, then spread the remaining ganache over the top and sides.
  • Let it sit for a while to set before slicing and serving.

Notes

To enhance flavor, add instant coffee granules to the batter for a mocha twist. Use different types of chocolate chips for varied taste.
