Ingredients

For the fish

  • 1 large fillet large fish fillet (snapper, sea bass, cod, etc.) Choose a fresh, flaky fish that will absorb flavors

  • 1 lime lime, cut into wedges For serving

Instructions

Preparation

  • Rinse and dry the fish fillet under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, and sesame oil (or olive oil) to create the sauce.
  • Fill a pot with about an inch of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Set a steamer basket or rack inside.
  • Place the seasoned fish on a heatproof plate, slide the fresh ginger slices underneath, and pour the prepared sauce over the top.

Cooking

  • Carrfully place the plate in the steamer, cover it with a lid, and steam for 8–10 minutes until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Finishing touches

  • Top the dish with the sliced chilies and fresh coriander. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

Choose fresh fish for the best results, customize spice level with chilies, and consider adding veggies to the steamer. Use a bamboo steamer for unique flavor.
