Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Mix softened butter with minced garlic in a small bowl. Spread this mixture evenly over each slice of bread.
  • Place the buttered bread on a baking sheet and toast them lightly for about 5 minutes until golden.

Cooking

  • In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add sliced mushrooms, thyme, salt, and pepper. Sauté for approximately 5 minutes, until mushrooms soften.
  • Stir in balsamic vinegar if desired for added richness.

Assembly

  • Spoon the sautéed mushrooms evenly over each toasted bread slice.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella and Gruyère cheese mixture over the mushrooms.
  • Return the topped toasts to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.
