For the Butter Sauce

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and thoroughly grease and flour a bundt pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the softened butter, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, beating on medium speed for 2–3 minutes.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • While the cake bakes, prepare the butter sauce by combining 3/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup butter, and 3 tbsp water in a saucepan. Heat until melted and simmering, then stir in 2 tsp vanilla extract.
  • After baking, allow the cake to cool slightly, poke holes with a toothpick, and pour the warm butter sauce over the top.
  • Let the cake sit in the pan for 30 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.

Notes

For the best crust, ensure your butter is softened but not melted. You can use almond or lemon extract for a flavor twist. For added richness, consider adding nuts.
