Ingredients

Puff Pastry Layers

  • 2 sheets sheets of puff pastry (thawed) These will create the delicate, crispy layers.

Custard Base

  • 500 ml whole milk Forms the base of the custard.
  • 100 g sugar Balances the acidity of the lemon.
  • 3 pieces egg yolks Provides richness and helps thicken the custard.
  • 40 g cornstarch Used to stabilize the custard.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 60 ml Limoncello Adds an aromatic citrus punch.
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest Brightens the custard with natural lemon oils.

Whipped Cream Topping

  • 250 ml heavy cream Whipped to create a light topping.
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar To sweeten the whipped cream.
  • 1 tsp lemon extract For additional lemon flavor.

Garnish

  • to taste powdered sugar For dusting the dessert.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
  • Poke the thawed puff pastry sheets lightly with a fork to prevent excessive puffing.
  • Bake the pastry sheets until golden brown, about 15 to 18 minutes.
  • Allow the baked pastry sheets to cool completely on a wire rack.

Custard Preparation

  • Heat 500 ml of whole milk in a saucepan with the lemon zest until just boiling.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly.
  • Return this mixture to the pot and cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and Limoncello.
  • Allow the custard to cool completely.

Whipped Cream Preparation

  • In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream with powdered sugar and lemon extract until stiff peaks form.

Assembly

  • Place one puff pastry sheet on a serving platter.
  • Spread a thick layer of limoncello custard over it, followed by a generous layer of whipped cream.
  • Add the second puff pastry sheet on top and repeat the layering process.
  • Finish with a final layer of whipped cream on top.
  • Dust generously with powdered sugar and garnish as desired.
  • Chill the assembled dessert for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

Chill mixing bowls for fluffier whipped cream. Consider using fresh lemons for better flavor. You can include different fillings like fresh fruit for variety.
