Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh pineapple chunks The natural sweetness and juicy texture of ripe pineapples will form the base of this hot sauce.
  • 3-4 pieces orange habanero peppers For those who enjoy heat, these bright, fiery peppers pack a punch (remove seeds for less heat).
  • 1/2 cup white onion, chopped Adds depth of flavor with its slightly sweet and savory notes.
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed Provides a robust aroma that complements the other ingredients beautifully.
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar This adds tanginess that balances the sweetness and heat.
  • 2 tbsp lime juice A fresh burst of citrus that enhances all the flavors.
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup A touch of natural sweetness to round out the heat.
  • 1/2 tsp salt To enhance all the flavors.
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric Adds a warm earthiness and vibrant color.
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika Optional for those who desire a subtle smokiness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a pan over medium heat, lightly sauté the pineapple, onion, garlic, and habaneros for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Transfer everything from the pan to a blender. Add in the apple cider vinegar, lime juice, honey, turmeric, salt, and smoked paprika (if using). Blend on high until the mixture is very smooth.
  • Pour the blended mixture back into a saucepan and simmer over low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once simmered, let the sauce cool down. Transfer cooled sauce into sterilized bottles or jars.

Serving Suggestions

  • Drizzle this sweet-hot sauce over tacos, chicken, seafood, or roasted veggies.
  • Use this sauce to spice up dips or as a flavorful marinade.

Notes

For extra heat, leave the seeds in the habanero peppers. Add a handful of fresh cilantro when blending for a refreshing twist. Sterilized containers will help prolong the life of your hot sauce.
