Base Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup thick Greek yogurt (plain, full-fat) The creamy base of the dish.
  • 1 large egg Brings richness and a silky yolk.
  • 1 1/2 tbsp chili crisp (store-bought or homemade) Provides warmth and crunch.
  • 1 tsp olive oil Adds rich flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice or vinegar Adds brightness.
  • Salt & cracked black pepper to taste Essential seasonings.

Optional Garnishes

  • Fresh herbs (parsley, dill, or scallions) For added color and freshness.
  • Toasted sesame seeds, za’atar, flaky salt For extra texture and flavor.
  • Warm flatbread, pita chips, or sourdough toast For serving and scooping.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Boil the Egg: Bring a small pot of water to a rolling boil. Gently lower the egg into the bubbling water and set a timer for exactly 7 minutes. Once done, transfer the egg to an ice bath immediately.
  • Prepare the Yogurt Base: In a bowl, spoon in the Greek yogurt, swirl in the olive oil, and squeeze in the lemon juice. Season with salt and cracked black pepper, and mix until airy.

Assembly

  • Add the Egg: Carefully peel the chilled egg, slice it in half, and place it on top of the yogurt.
  • Final Touches: Spoon the chili crisp over the egg, and scatter fresh herbs, sesame seeds, or drizzle additional olive oil.

Serving

  • Pair the yogurt bowl with warm flatbread, pita chips, or sourdough toast. Break the yolk and stir it into the yogurt before enjoying.

Notes

For those who want to lighten the dish, consider using low-fat yogurt or experimenting with different spices. It's crucial not to overcook the egg for that perfect jammy yolk.
