Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and dust with flour.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, whisk egg yolks with 3/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy, then stir in whole milk and vanilla extract.
  • Fold the flour mixture into the yolk mixture until just combined.
  • Beat egg whites in a separate bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the batter and pour it into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, check for doneness, then allow to cool for 10 minutes.

Soaking

  • Whisk together sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.
  • Poke holes in the warm cake with a fork and pour the milk mixture evenly over it. Allow to soak for at least 30 minutes.
  • For the best flavor, refrigerate it for a few hours or overnight.
